Rocky Mountain Nuggets starter Rafael Rivera turned in an exceptional performance against the Oakland Oaks at Oakland Coliseum, resulting in a Rocky Mountain win, 5-2. Rivera picked up the win for Rocky Mountain, going 7.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. Jorge Garza picked up the save, his 4th.
Also pitching in was Rocky Mountain first baseman Javier Sánchez, who hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth. For the game, Sánchez was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Rocky Mountain Nuggets manager Matt Hunt. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Rocky Mountain, now 6-11, is off to a slow start.
