The Columbia River Rats defeated the Mt. Vernon Bulls, 7-1, at Ballpark of Mt. Vernon. Columbia shortstop Víctor Hernández was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. Carlos Córdova picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Steve Costlow was tagged with the loss. Mt. Vernon, at 9-28, has lost 5 straight.
Asko Riikonen's at-bat in the top of the fourth was significant for the River Rats. Coming to the plate with the bases loaded and Columbia leading 1-0, the designated hitter got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Hernández told the Columbia Daily News.
