Thundercats Best Hotspur in Pitching Duel
|
The Thundercats had to overcome a fine effort from Phoenix pitcher Santiago Alonza to grab a 2-1 win at Chase Field. Alonza went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Jesús Gonzáles, who threw 88 pitches over 7.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 2 hits. Bo Tubbs got credit for the save for Richardson City. It was his 2nd of the year.
Tied up with the Hotspur in the top of the seventh, the Thundercats got a boost from right fielder Pedro Castillo. With the bases empty, Castillo saw a 2-1 curveball from Santiago Alonza and hit a solo home run to break the stalemate and put Richardson City on top, 2-1.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Phoenix manager Michael Esposito said following the tough loss.
The Thundercats raised their record to 7-6.
