Grim got a terrific game from center fielder Lee Benjamin. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Alameda, 7-2. Benjamin was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Alameda reliever Miguel Matos was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Edward Scarborough took the loss. The 5th-place Airmen improved to 50-43.

Also playing a key role was Arturo Urquiza. The Alameda designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, Urquiza went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"I thought we played a nice game," Urquiza told the Alameda Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
