Hammond Bats Go Silent in 3-0 Loss
|
The Niagara Falls Expos got a stellar performance from pitcher Dao-zi Zhai, who handcuffed the Hammond offense en route to a 3-0 win at The Heron Refuge. Zhai got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 7 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Zhai allowed no earned runs. The Expos improved to 13-22.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Expos sent teenager Duk-yeo Chin to the plate against Herons hurler Tony Alfonso. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-1 splitter to score 2.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Davis Burt. "That was the problem."
