The Washington Generals knocked off the Hammond Herons, 5-4, at The Heron Refuge. Pedro Villarreal, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Washington won. The third baseman was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Washington reliever Russell Hendrickson was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Ryunosuke Kurota. Picking up the save was Randy Gabaldon, his 2nd.

Early in the game, left fielder Mike Lipide had a 2-run home run for Washington. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Generals on top, 2-0.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Hammond manager Davis Burt.

The third-place Generals now have a win-loss record of 21-11.
