González Helps Herons Run Win Streak to 8
|
The Hammond Herons beat the Alameda Airmen, 9-6, at The Heron Refuge. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Carlos González, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Ryunosuke Kurota picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 2-1. Kelemeneke Balun earned the save for Hammond, his 1st of the year.
Also having an impact was second baseman Wilson López, who stroked a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth for Hammond. For the game, López was 1 for 4.
"This team is real focused right now," said Hammond Herons manager Davis Burt.
Hammond, at 11-3, has sizzled in the early going.
