McGirt Stars in Guzzlers Win
|
Galesburg beat Provo at Galesburg Field, escaping with a 8-1 win. The win in large part was due to center fielder Willie McGirt, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3-3 with 3 doubles and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Faisal bin Nabeel picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 7 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 1-2. Galesburg is in 11th place in the Menard's A with a record of 10-18.
McGirt came through with some timely hitting for Galesburg. With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the second and two down, McGirt hit a 1-0 forkball for a 2-run double. It was his 6th double of the season -- and a big reason the Guzzlers managed to win.
"We take it day by day here," said McGirt, "and today was a good one for us."
