Chiefs Throttle 1787 BC, 5-1
|
With right fielder Felipe Córdova leading the charge, the Connetquot Chiefs defeated the Delaware 1787 BC, 5-1, at Carrier Field. Córdova, who is tied for 7th in the 3A in home runs with 2, was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Daniel Lavalley got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed 1 run on 10 hits in 8.2 innings. Alan McKinney, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Córdova came through with some timely hitting for Connetquot. With the score 1-0 in the top of the fifth and two down, Córdova hit a first pitch fastball for a bases-clearing double. It was his 2nd double of the season -- and a big reason the Chiefs managed to win.
"We did enough to win," said Córdova.
With the win, Connetquot goes to 12-13, while the 1787 BC fall to 13-12.
