Torch Come Up Short at Myrtle Beach
|
Myrtle Beach overcame a superlative game from Kyle Vandenbrink to beat Mancelona, 5-4. The Mancelona first baseman took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. The winner was Myrtle Beach reliever Greyfriars Bobby, now 1-0. The loser was Jason Millward. Sam Schultz recorded the save for Myrtle Beach, his 2nd of the season.
Myrtle Beach grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Luis Oliva delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 4-3 in favor of the Seahawks.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Oliva told the Myrtle Beach Today.
With the loss, Mancelona sinks to 12-7.
