Screaming Eagles Knock Off Little Caesars at The Pizza Oven

The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles downed the Little Caesars Hot N Readys, 9-4, at The Pizza Oven. The Screaming Eagles were led by Marcos Reyes, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Gob Bluth earned the win for Mercer Island. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 3-1. The first-place Mercer Island Screaming Eagles have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Tied up with the Hot N Readys in the top of the fifth, the Screaming Eagles got a boost from catcher Martinus Xhaka. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Xhaka saw a first pitch fastball from Kent Scalici and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Mercer Island on top, 5-4.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Bill Russell. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
