Continentals Saddle Lionhearts with 3-2 Loss
|
Chesapeake Grounds was the site of a tense game between the Lannister United Lionhearts and Chesapeake Continentals.
Lannister United center fielder Colin Worthington was sensational. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chesapeake beat the Lionhearts, 3-2. Worthington was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winner was Chesapeake reliever Héctor Rodríguez, now 2-1. The loser was Doug Freeth. Anthony Ledesma picked up the save for Chesapeake, his 13th of the year.
The Chesapeake win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Ángel Pineda. In the bottom of the fourth, the Chesapeake designated hitter came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.
"Some of the guys in here work pretty hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Pineda told the Chesapeake Times.
At 26-31, the Continentals are currently 7th in the Premier AA.
