Chesapeake got a terrific performance from center fielder Dave Yates, but it wasn't enough to beat the Salem Misfits. Salem won the Ricochets Ballpark contest, 6-5. Yates was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He hit 2 home runs. Salem reliever Bradley Roth picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Eddie Schmitt took the loss. The 6th-place Misfits improved to 21-22.

The game came to an abrupt end with two out in the bottom of the ninth. On a pitch from Eddie Schmitt, José Cuervo reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It gave Salem the 6-5 walk-off win.

"Some wins are easy, some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Cuervo told the Salem News.
