Late Rally by Patriots Secures Win
|
Starting pitcher John Kaufman pitched well enough to help the Boston Patriots beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids by the score of 5-3. The winning pitcher was Kaufman, now 9-5. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 11. Folkert van Huizen notched his 9th save in 11 chances.
Tamasaburo Kato's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from José Caballero for a 2-run single. It put Boston in front, 5-3.
In postgame comments to the Boston Daily, Kato said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Patriots improved to 56-39.
