Phoenix used a superb performance from starting pitcher John Ball to down the Houston BC, 4-1. Ball was the winning pitcher and moves to 6-7. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Alexander Weareorwear was credited with the save for Phoenix, his 20th of the season.
Also contributing to the win was first baseman Harumi Takaki, who stroked a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first for Phoenix. For the game, Takaki was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Baseball is a funny game," said Takaki. "You've got to keep battling until things fall your way."
With the win, the Hotspur Reserves have a record of 36-51.
