Braves Top Hotspur Reserves, 4-3
|
Gryfindor Braves starter Frank Veeck was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves, 4-3. In 5.1 innings, Veeck surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Biff Tannen locked down his 19th save.
In the top of the 6th, right fielder Ken Watanabe gave Gryfindor the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Braves had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Phoenix pitcher Ricardo Sánchez changed that -- and Gryfindor went on to win.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Watanabe told the Gryfindor Herald. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
The win puts the Braves at 34-26, while the Hotspur Reserves drop to 22-38.
