Multi-HR Day for Mateo as Hotspur Reserves Overpower Great Lakers, 12-4
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Reserves defeated the Pure Michigan Great Lakers, 12-4, at Thunderbirds Stadium. Phoenix catcher Júlio Mateo was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-2 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Titus Parson earned the win for Phoenix. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 2-7. Phoenix bumps their record to 19-29 with the win.
Mateo came through with some timely hitting for Phoenix. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the third and one down, Mateo hit a full count fastball for a 3-run home run. It was his 11th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Hotspur Reserves managed to win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Mateo. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
