Late Rally by Polar Bears Secures Win
|
The Long Island Seawolves wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter Winston Wenham, falling 2-1 to the Billings Polar Bears at The Igloo. Billings reliever Rafael Torrez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Fernando Júlio shouldered the loss. Billings has a 3-game win streak, while Long Island has lost 3 in a row.
In the bottom of the 8th, pinch hitter Fernando Trinidad gave Billings the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Polar Bears had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out single off Long Island pitcher José González changed that -- and Billings went on to win.
Trinidad said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
