Nationals Sneak Past Grasshoppers, 6-4
|
San Bernardino got a terrific performance from pitcher Delmar Llerena, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ottawa Nationals. Ottawa won the Field of the Grasshoppers contest, 6-4. Llerena was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. Ottawa reliever Rafael Peralta picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Delmar Llerena shouldered the loss. Geer Verwest recorded the save for Ottawa, his 2nd of the season.
José García was a key contributor to the win for the Nationals. In the top of the ninth with two out, the light-hitting right fielder stroked a single to left. He was 1 for 1.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said San Bernardino manager Marcos Serrano. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The last-place Nationals improved to 25-63.
