Hotspur Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras
|
The inspired effort of Boston catcher Timmy Appeldoorn was not enough to prevent a 6-5 loss to the Phoenix Hotspur. Appeldoorn was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Phoenix reliever Scott William was credited with the win, to go to 1-1. Jeff Territt took the loss for Boston. The Hotspur raised their record to 44-33.
The most important at-bat for Phoenix came in the top of the 13th inning, when catcher Randy Rehling stroked a 2-1 fastball to left for a run-scoring double, putting Phoenix up, 6-5.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Rehling. "I like it."
