Miners Score Late, Top Nationals, 6-5
|
Marquette beat Ottawa, 6-5. The win in part was due to second baseman Vicente Castaneda, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Marquette reliever Esteban Ramos picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Rafael Peralta was saddled with the loss. The third-place Nationals have lost 5 straight games.
Norm Singletary had the most critical at-bat for Marquette, coming in the top of the ninth inning with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd. Singletary hit a 1-2 changeup from Rafael Peralta for a run-scoring single. It put Marquette in front, 6-5.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Castaneda. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
