Big Day at the Plate for Trinidad Not Enough
|
The Billings Polar Bears got a superb performance from first baseman Fernando Trinidad. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Marquette. The Miners won the game, 16-9. In spite of the loss, Trinidad was named the player of the game. He slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Marquette reliever Cisco Ortega was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Jim Washington took the loss. It was the 9th win in 14 games this year for the defending champion Miners, who are picking up where they left off.
It could have been a different outcome for Marquette, had it not been for Edgar Balerio, the 19-year old center fielder . Balerio contributed a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Marquette up, 9-8.
"I like the roll we're on right now," said Balerio after the game.
