Stingers Solve Evergreens, 5-3
|
The Portland Evergreens got a superb performance from catcher Adrián Gómez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Toledo. The Stingers won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Gómez was named the player of the game. He was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. Brad Cunnick was the winner. Over 8.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts. The 11th-place Stingers improved to 31-52.
Also producing for Toledo was first baseman Leonard O'Connor, who stroked a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, O'Connor went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI.
O'Connor called the win "a collective effort."
