Dutchmen Fall Short, 3-2, at Philadelphia 1776
|
The Philadelphia 1776 BC got a stellar performance from pitcher Elroy Thompkins, who handcuffed the New Amsterdam offense en route to a 3-2 win at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. Thompkins was the winning pitcher and moves to 4-2. He threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 5 walks. António Rodríguez finished the game for Philadelphia 1776 and earned his 3rd save.
It could have been a different outcome for Philadelphia 1776, had it not been for José Rodríguez, the 23-year old center fielder . Rodríguez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to put Philadelphia 1776 up, 3-2.
New Amsterdam manager Sal Gaudio said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
After today's action, Philadelphia 1776 sits at 40-28, while New Amsterdam falls to 35-33.
