Evergreens Get One-Run Win at Greenville
|
The Portland Evergreens and Greenville 84s put on a pitchers' duel at 84s Field.
Portland Evergreens starter Leroy Picot was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Greenville 84s, 2-1. Picot was the winning pitcher and moves to 5-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks.
The Evergreens beat the 84s in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the double Clay Rush produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Greenville pitcher Adrián Fierro, he gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring double.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Rush.
With the win, Portland goes to 40-23, while the 84s fall to 43-20.
