Tight Tilt Goes to 84s, 3-0
|
The Chicago Hawks and Greenville 84s were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at Hawks Ballpark.
In a well-pitched game between the Greenville 84s and the Chicago Hawks, pitcher Eric Matson was superb. The Greenville right-hander was named the player of the game in Greenville's 3-0 win. Matson got the win, improving to 5-2. He allowed 1 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Matson allowed no earned runs. Colijn de Goedere picked up the save for Greenville, his 4th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Greenville, had it not been for Roberto Escues, the 26-year old center fielder . Escues contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put Greenville up, 2-0.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Escues told the Greenville Chronicle.
Greenville has now won 3 in a row.
