Salt Lake City Bats Go Silent in 3-0 Loss

Ben Hopley could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Salt Lake City Buzz lost, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Spirits Stadium. Cherles Gachineiro closed the game out for Vermont, earning his 27th save. With the win, the Lake Monsters have a record of 48-46.
The Lake Monsters beat the Buzz in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the triple Zelmar Barajas produced in the top of the fourth. Batting against Salt Lake City pitcher Ben Hopley, he gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring triple.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Vermont manager Jack Barnes.
