Lake Monsters Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Flyers
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters knocked off the Pennsauken Flyers, 7-4, at Pennsauken Park. José Alcalá, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Vermont won. The designated hitter was 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Vermont reliever Javier Matajudíos, now 5-3. The loser was Martin Ortíz. The Lake Monsters move to 38-41 with the win, while the Flyers drop to 43-36.
Alcalá had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Martin Ortíz, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Lake Monsters a 7-4 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Alcalá.
"It's good to win," Alcalá told the Vermont Observer. "I like to have fun doing it."
