Lake Monsters Stick Halberds with 3-1 Loss
|
Vermont beat Alloway at Ballpark of Alloway, eking out a 3-1 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Manuel Montés, who earned player of the game honors. In 5.2 innings, Montés surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The Lake Monsters move to 30-32 with the win, while the Halberds drop to 17-45.
West Point, Georgia-born Luis Freitas came through in the clutch. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st and the Lake Monsters trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run home run to right to put Vermont on top.
"I felt good up there," said Freitas. "I saw the ball well."
