The Vermont Lake Monsters stopped the Alloway Halberds, 4-2, at Monster Field. The Lake Monsters got a big game from Juan Báez, who was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jon Shirley, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. The loss drops Alloway to 3-7.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, designated hitter José Alcalá came through big-time for the Lake Monsters. With Vermont trailing 2-1, he belted a solo home run.
