Mermen Win Again, Extend Streak to 6
|
Irving designated hitter Manny Gonzáles had a terrific game. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Myrtle Beach beat the Blue Sox, 5-4. Gonzáles was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jorge Vázquez picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 10 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. On the season, he is now 10-6. The Myrtle Beach winning streak has now reached 6 games.
It could have been a different outcome for Myrtle Beach, had it not been for Carlos González, the 22-year old left fielder . González contributed a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to put Myrtle Beach up, 3-2.
"It was a good effort all around," said González.
