The Panama City Piranhas defeated the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 5-2, in Premier League action at Atlantica, with Panama City pitcher Valentín Montenegro named player of the game. Montenegro was the winning pitcher and moves to 2-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. Panama City now has a 3-game win streak.
Baldomero Avino, who is tied for 6th in the PL with a .481 slugging percentage, aided the Panama City cause with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Avino told the Panama City Daily.
