The Myrtle Beach Mermen got a stellar performance from pitcher José López, who handcuffed the Richland offense en route to a 4-1 win at Tennille Grounds. Luis Vega got the save, the 1st for him this season. At 44-37, Myrtle Beach is in 4th place in the Silver AA.
Myrtle Beach took the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Maik Palen stroked a 2-run double. That made the score 3-1 in favor of Myrtle Beach. For the day, Palen went 1 for 1 with a double, while adding 3 RBI.
"José did a tremendous job," said Myrtle Beach manager Juan Belmontes.
