Victory Pushes Hops Record to 42-30
|
Myrtle Beach shortstop Éric Leroux had a terrific game. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Yakima beat the Mermen, 7-5. Leroux was named the player of the game despite the loss. Miguel Cabañas was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Billy Mays got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Also making an impact was first baseman Bob Maher, who drilled a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth for Yakima. For the game, Maher went 1 for 4.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Myrtle Beach manager Juan Belmontes. "But we decided not to take it."
With the win, the Hops have a record of 42-30.
