The Richland Rails had to overcome a big game from Durham designated hitter Carlos Chávez to leave Rapiers Ballpark with a 7-6 victory. Chávez was 2 for 3 with a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Russ Melton, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings. Richland is now riding a 6-game win streak.

Mike Gillespie was a key contributor to the win for the Rails. In the top of the seventh with two out, the light-hitting left fielder stroked a single to left. He was 2-5 with 2 singles.

"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Richland manager Allen Bartlett.
