Myrtle Beach pitcher Ernest Hawks did his part in helping his team beat the Lancaster Farmers, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Hawks, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 3 earned runs. The 6th-place Farmers have lost 7 consecutive games.
It could have been a different outcome for Myrtle Beach, had it not been for Sixto Estrada, the 21-year old center fielder . Estrada contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Myrtle Beach up, 4-0.
In postgame comments to the Myrtle Beach Times, Estrada said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
