Mermen Saddle Rails with 5-3 Loss

Myrtle Beach and Richland duked it out at Tennille Grounds and the Mermen came out victorious.
Myrtle Beach withstood an impressive performance by Richland designated hitter Alexandre Keeping to defeat the Rails, 5-3, at Tennille Grounds. Keeping was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and was hit by a pitch. Myrtle Beach starter Jorge Vázquez was credited with the win after throwing 123 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. Francisco Gonsáles recorded his 2nd save for Myrtle Beach.
Mark Frisby in the bottom of the fifth had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and the Mermen leading 4-3, the Myrtle Beach second baseman hit a sacrifice fly.
Richland manager Allen Bartlett said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
With the win, Myrtle Beach boosts its record to 9-11.
