The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks picked up a win at Field of the Rawhides, knocking off the Belvedere Park Rawhides, 10-1. Starting pitcher Ira Hipps played a key role in the triumph. Hipps, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. The Thunder Hawks, with just their 2nd win so far in 2028, have yet to catch fire.

In the top of the eighth inning, designated hitter Pedro Méndez came through big-time for the Thunder Hawks. With Ft. Polk South leading 6-0, he belted a 3-run home run.

"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Méndez.
