Virginia Beach Deuces starter Gabriel Herrera was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 6-2. The winning pitcher was Herrera, now 1-0. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. The loss drops Ft. Polk South to 0-2.

Tied up with the Thunder Hawks in the top of the fourth, the Deuces got a boost from center fielder Stephen McManus. With runners on 1st and 2nd, McManus saw a 1-2 fastball from Delano Turnipseed and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Virginia Beach on top, 2-1.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Virginia Beach manager Yoshifumi Kamuta. "Our pregame was pretty good."
