Humpbacks Sneak Past Longnecks, 5-1
|
Bloomington got a terrific performance from pitcher Miguel Cervantes, but it wasn't enough to beat the Alaskan Humpbacks. Alaskan won the Lookouts Ballpark contest, 5-1. Cervantes was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 1 run. Alaskan reliever Andrew Webster picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Richard Sykes shouldered the loss. The third-place Longnecks have lost 4 straight games.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Sacha Nieuwenburg hit a 2-2 changeup from Richard Sykes for a 3-run home run. It put Alaskan in front, 4-1.
"This is a very good team," said Nieuwenburg. "We have the chance to do something special."
