Loss Extends Atlanta Losing Streak

Fans who came to Smoke Ballpark watched the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and the Atlanta Smoke fight to the finish.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids went home winners at Smoke Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter Raúl Gómez. Gómez silenced the Atlanta Smoke, enabling Northern Virginia to grab the 2-1 win. Gómez went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-3. David Hudson earned the save for Northern Virginia, his 1st of the year.
Northern Virginia grabbed control in the top of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Shohei Kiyomizu delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 2-1 in favor of the Rainbow Mermaids.
"I just trusted my stuff," said Gómez.
The Smoke, now 13-16, have lost 6 in a row.
