Marés Brilliant -- Fires No-Hitter
No hitters are rare. But the fans at Field of the Middies received a special gift as António Marés of the Middies tossed a no-hitter against the Montana Pandas. He was masterful as he struck out 7 and walked 1 in a 3-0 Grafton victory. In all Marés faced only 28 batters. Marés did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Pandas. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.

The Montana manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."

"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Marés said to reporters.

Checking out his stats for the season, Marés has racked up 2 wins and 4 losses in 6 starts, 4.72 ERA and struck out 54 batters in 61 innings.
