The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids trumped the Phoenix Hotspur, 5-4, at Atlantica. Northern Virginia designated hitter Arlen Joysey was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The first-place Rainbow Mermaids have won 5 in a row.
Northern Virginia took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Ethan Miller stroked a run-scoring single to make it 5-4, Rainbow Mermaids.
Joysey called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
