The Phoenix Hotspur defeated the Grafton Middies, 7-2, at Field of the Middies. Phoenix first baseman Mario Cruz was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Phoenix is now 37-16, 3˝ games up in the Silver League.

Cruz came through with some timely hitting for Phoenix. With the score 1-0 in the top of the first and two down, Cruz hit a full count fastball for a 2-run home run. It was his 16th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Hotspur managed to win.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Cruz told the Phoenix Gazette.
