Hopkins Delivers Walk-Off Win for Cattlemen
|
The Ft. Worth Cattlemen downed the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 7-6, at The Cattle Pen. The Cattlemen were led by Enrique Marroquín, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Ft. Worth reliever Don Miller was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ilie Paunescu took the loss. With the victory, the Cattlemen record now stands at 24-14.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Ft. Worth trailing 6-3, Ed Hopkins hit a fastball from Ilie Paunescu to left for a grand slam home run. Just like that, the Cattlemen had a walk-off win.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Marroquín told the Ft. Worth Herald. "It's as simple as that."
