Airmen Go Down to Defeat, 4-2
|
The Gwinnett County Black Cats got a stellar effort from pitcher Sonny Rubalcaba, helped Gwinnett County score a 4-2 win over the visiting Alameda Airmen. In 7 innings, Rubalcaba surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 13 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. José Quintero recorded the save for Gwinnett County, his 29th of the season.
Tied up with the Airmen in the bottom of the seventh, the Black Cats got a boost from pinch hitter Pedro Castro. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Castro saw a 2-0 fastball from Miguel Matos and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Gwinnett County on top, 4-2.
Castro said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "Pretty good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
The first-place Black Cats, at 60-36, now lead their division by 2½ games.
