Niagara Falls and Mt. Vernon duked it out at Ballpark of Mt. Vernon and the Expos came out victorious.
Behind a solid performance from third baseman Justin Smelter, the Niagara Falls Expos defeated the Mt. Vernon Bulls, 6-3. Smelter went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times for the Expos. Niagara Falls starter Ramón Cerrillo was credited with the win after throwing 121 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 7-8. Dao-zi Zhai picked up the save for Niagara Falls, his 1st of the year.
Mario Germán contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly. It was one at-bat that helped Niagara Falls get the win.
"Wish we'd had more wins to celebrate like this one," said Germán.
Niagara Falls is now 33-59, Mt. Vernon 39-53.
