Blaze Edge Past Niagara Falls, 7-1
|
The Niagara Falls Expos got a sterling performance from pitcher Ramón Cerrillo, but the Blaze still prevailed, 7-1. Cerrillo was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. South Beach reliever José Sauls picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Woody Hudson absorbed the loss. The second-place Blaze have won 6 in a row.
Stanley van de Ven provided some late-game heroics for South Beach. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a 2-run single. It came on a 1-0 fastball from Woody Hudson and propelled South Beach to a 3-1 lead.
"I like how we're playing right now," said van de Ven.
