River Rats, Rico Pin Bad Loss on Plainsmen
|
In a tight contest at Columbia Stadium, the Columbia River Rats edged the Nebraska Plainsmen by the score of 10-2. The Columbia River Rats' right fielder Marcos Rico, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Manuel Sánchez, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 12. His record now stands at 7-7. With the victory, the River Rats record now stands at 32-32.
The fans who came in support of the River Rats were pleased with the outcome. It was what they had hoped for when they passed through the turnstiles at Columbia Stadium.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Nebraska manager Bill Russell. "But we decided not to take it."
