Syracuse shortstop Scotty Smalls picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 8-2. António Muñóz was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Syracuse is now 15-5, 2½ games up in the Silver A.
Smalls had a game-changing home run in the top of the third. On a 3-1 curveball from Ron Crabtree, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Storm a 3-1 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Smalls.
"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Curtis Lee.
